The Business The restaurant atmosphere is comfortable with a good ol' Texas feel. Our meat is slow cooked to perfection out back in our smoker pits, using mesquite wood for fuel. All of our sides, deserts, and sauce are made from scratch. The buns for the popular menu item, chopped brisket sandwich, are baked to perfection daily, as well.
We're always busy with a catering ,so be sure to call ahead of time to work details of your event with David. Custom barbecue is also provided, especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas. |

Our Story A Fredericksburg native, David and Tricia Herrera had three kids and settled back in their hometown in 1999. After being employed as manager for Taco Cabana in Houston and the Sunday House Restaurant in Fredericksburg, Herrera ventured into a business of his own. Herrera's Restaurant y Cantina served Mexican food to Bandera residents until Herrera turned his focus towards barbeque.
"'I haven't worked a day in my life, because I love what I do, and that doesn't feel like work for me.' This attitude is in large measure what has led David Herrera, owner/operator of David's Old Fashioned Pit BBQ, through a successful career in food service.' Herrera started his barbeque restaurant in Fredericksburg on Highway 16 South in 2009 and soon thereafter moved to his current location at the corner of Main and Milam streets. "The number one key to success in the restaurant business is great service. Show the customer you are there for them. Combine that with a consistent product and you have a recipe for success, he says.'" (Penny Ray, Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce) |
